Airline Waiver Policies

Airlines have released their travel polices in response to the COVID-19 outbreak. The airlines listed below will be waiving cancellation and re-booking fees for a travel credit up to the VALUE of the original ticket. Fare differences will apply for new travel dates if original booking class not available or the new fare is higher.

NOTE: If you didn’t make a booking through Planet Earth Travel, you will need to go direct to who you made the booking with as we are unable to access your booking to assist you.

Philippine Airlines:

Philippine Airlines wished to advise the following waiver has been put in place to assist passengers wanting to change their tickets due to the current global outbreak of the covid-19 corona-virus. Philippine Airlines will permit passengers to cancel their international tickets and hold in credit towards a new flight or apply for refund within the following conditions:

  • Application Philippine Airlines (079) Tickets issued in New Zealand before 31 October 2020.
  • If passenger is undecided on new dates, ticket value can be held in credit for 12 months from date original ticket was issued.*
  • Apply for refund if ticket departure is up to 31 December 2020. **

The new reservations must continue to adhere to the ticket/fare rules.

*The credit is valid for 1 year from date of issue and can be used to purchase tickets on Philippine Airlines only. This is not transferable and not convertible to cash. Fare difference will apply if new flight costs more than original ticket.

** Fees will apply, your travel agent will advise you on refund amount minus fees. Fees will be deducted from refund amount from Airline, this is to cover the costs of work to recover funds as well as GDS segment recall fee charged by our booking system.

Please contact your travel agent to make changes to your booking or to hold your ticket value in credit. You may be eligible for a refund if you don’t want a travel credit if you are travelling up to 31 December 2020. Please contact your travel agent to check eligibility.

Qantas:

All customers with a QF (081) booking (existing or new) impacted by COVID-19 cancellations for travel now until 31 December 2020 are entitled to the following options:

  • Rebook (where possible) to a partner airline operated flight

New flights must be in the same class (subject to class availability). If cancelled flights are within 48 hours of departure, customers can be rebooked to lowest available in the same cabin.

  • Retain the value of the ticket in credit

Ticket can be held in credit until 31 December 2022. Travel must be completed by 31 December 2022. If the new fare is of a higher value than the existing ticketed fare, the fare difference is payable by the customer. Applicable ticket surcharges, fees and taxes may apply.

  • Refund*

If the above alternative options are not suitable and original travel dates are up to 24 October 2020, customers are entitled to a refund. Customers who have commenced their journey are entitled to a refund of the impacted sector/s. Customers who have not commenced their journey are entitled to a refund for travel departing up to 24 October 2020 only. Anything beyond this date departing up to 31 December 2020 are only entitled to a travel credit / rebooking. Fare difference will apply if new airfare is higher.

*Refund Rules:

  • Any Qantas imposed refund fees will be waived for tickets issued in accordance with this policy.
  • This excludes fees imposed by suppliers or third parties.
  • Fees will apply, your travel agent will advise you on refund amount minus fees. Fees will be deducted from refund amount from Airline, this is to cover the costs of work to recover funds as well as GDS segment recall fee charged by our booking system.

Singapore Airlines:

Extension of Flight Credits to 31 December 2021

Customers who purchased a SIA or SilkAir ticket on or before 15 March 2020, for travel up to 30 November 2020, can retain the full value of the unused portion of their tickets as flight credits. These can be used to book their new travel up till 31 December 2021. This gives customers the flexibility to plan, book and travel from now until then. We will also waive no-show and rebooking fees, allowing customers to truly enjoy the full value of their flight credits.

Bonus Flight Credits

Singapore Airlines will also award bonus flight credits to all customers who choose to retain their tickets as flight credits. This is their way of thanking you for your support during this challenging period. Based on the cabin class that you originally booked, you will receive the following bonus flight credits:

Economy Class – NZ$85
Premium Economy Class – NZ$115
Business Class – NZ$230
Suites / First Class – NZ$585

Customers who opted to keep their tickets open due to the Covid-19 outbreak will also retain the value of the unused portion of their ticket as flight credits. They will also automatically qualify for the bonus flight credits.

Similarly, customers whose flights were cancelled by SIA or SilkAir will also retain the full value of the unused portion of their tickets as flight credits. They will also be awarded the bonus flight credits when rebooking their travel.

Refunds For Customers*

Customers who meet the above conditions, but do not wish to keep the value of their tickets as flight credits, will also be offered the option of a refund. Cancellation fees and no-show fees will also be waived.

Due to the large backlog of service requests, SIA are doing everything they can to process the refund requests as soon as possible. SIA expect to process the refunds on a monthly basis. For example, the refunds for the June departures will be processed in July. SIA believe this will offer more clarity for our customers. We ask for your patience if there are some delays as we process all requests.

Cathay Pacific:

We’re waiving ticket change fees for bookings impacted by coronavirus (COVID-19) – so you can alter your plans easily.

If you booked on or before 23 March 2020 for travel until 31 December 2020, you can change your booking with no re-booking or rerouting fees. Please refer to the below table to determine if your booking is eligible. This is available for tickets issued on or before 23 March 2020, with an original travel period between 17 March and 31 December 2020. Once you’ve changed your ticket to a Credit, you’ll have until 31 December 2020 to redeem on a new booking. You can also apply for a refund under the same conditions if you do not want to hold a credit.

Travel must be completed before 31 December 2021. If you booked on or before 23 March 2020 for travel until 31 October 2020, you can change your booking with no re-booking or rerouting fees. Please refer to the below table to determine if your booking is eligible.

If you haven’t decided on your new plans, don’t worry – you have until 31 December 2021 to complete your travel.

Some conditions apply:

  • Tickets must be booked on a Cathay Pacific or Cathay Dragon flight.
  • For bookings made through a travel agent or third-party website, please contact them directly for changes.*
  • Fare differences may apply and your new ticket must follow the same fare rules of your old ticket (for example, if your new ticket is during peak season while the original ticket is for low season, or certain travel dates may not be eligible).
