Tassie Devils Encounter
Tassie Devils Encounter Hotel
Now listed as endangered, the Tasmanian Devil is the largest living carnivorous marsupial in the world. While they might sound scary, Tassie Devils are actually shy creatures that are more scavenger than hunter. Devils @ Cradle is a unique Tasmanian conservation sanctuary located at the entrance to the spectacular World Heritage listed Cradle Mountain National Park. Mostly dedicated to the Tasmanian devil, the sanctuary is also home to the closely related Spotted-tail and Eastern quolls. Tasmania's three largest carnivorous marsupials are all now threatened in one way or another in the wild. The sanctuary is home to approximately 100 animals across the 3 species within industry recognised programs; the Save the Tasmanian Devil Program (STDP) and the Tasmanian Quoll Conservation Program (TQCP).
The sanctuary comes alive in the evening! The After Dark Feeding Tour provides an unforgettable experience, seeing these extraordinary animals in 'action' each evening. An experienced keeper will discuss biology, behaviour, threats and the important conservation work being undertaken for these species within the sanctuary. Devils are primarily a nocturnal species therefore far more active at night, we use environmentally sensitive lighting and focus on the social interactions and feeding habits of these unique carnivores, allowing visitors a rare up-close opportunity of seeing Tasmanian devils in a group feeding situation - quite a spectacular sight!
Your accommodation is at Lemonthyme Wilderness Retreat, a charming and unique property is perched majestically in the pristine wilderness adjacent to Cradle Mountain. Barely 10km "as the crow flies", Cradle Mountain is a comfortable 30 minute drive from this wilderness oasis by way of its own 8km access road to the main highway to Dove Lake and Cradle Mountain.
