Day 1: Amman – King’s Way - Petra
This morning you will be picked up from your hotel in Amman. Drive southwards along the Kings’ Way to Petra visiting Madaba, home to the famous 6th century mosaic map of the Holy Land and Mt. Nebo, burial site of Moses overlooking the Dead Sea and the Jordan Valley. Continue through the magnificent scenery of Wadi Mujib to Kerak to visit the Crusader Castle (stop for optional lunch). Two nights accommodation has been reserved in Petra.
Day 2: Petra sightseeing (B)
A full day to visit the many sites of Petra. This city was carved into the rose-red Sharah Mountains by the Nabateans and lost to Civilization until re-discovered by the Swiss Burkhardt. Walk through the Siq, a narrow and winding fissure between the cliffs, to reach the Treasury, the Roman Theater, the Courts, Qasr Bint, Pharaoun, Temple of the Winged Lion, and other monuments. Then a break for optional lunch, or you may wish to climb up to the Monastery.
Day 3: Petra - Wadi Rum - Amman (B)
Take a short ride in a 4x4 vehicle to visit the Wadi Rum Desert. With its awesome moon-like landscape, this is where the film “Lawrence of Arabia” was shot. Return to Amman on the Desert Highway or transfer to Aqaba and the Araba crossing. Tour services end with transfer to your hotel in Amman.

Flexi-holidaysOn all “flexi-holiday” itineraries (including the Royal Jordan tour) touring is made by private air-conditioned car with an English speaking driver. The journey from Amman to Petra or vv is with a private driver only. Local guides are provided in Petra and Jerash. The quality of assigned local guides may vary, due to Jordanian Government selection procedures, and is beyond the control of Ancient Kingdoms Holidays and their local representatives Jordan Circle Tours.
PetraIn Petra, the entrance fee includes free access to brochures & maps, a horse ride from the gate to the Siq and 3 hours guided tour. A horse and carriage is available within the Siq - this is booked and paid locally. Tips for horsemen and guides not included.
Dead SeaWhen travelling to the Dead Sea from Amman, remember to take your passport as there is a security stop enroute where it will need to be produced.
Wadi RumThe Desert camps, although permanent campsites, have basic infrastructure and facilities. The standard of accommodation will be lower than that experienced in a hotel.
Visa on arrival in JordanFor New Zealand & Australian passport holders staying more than 2 nights in Jordan, visa upon arrival can be organised by our local representative. Visa's can be also pre organised by our local representative for clients arrival into Jordan at Amman Airport, when arriving from Israel at Sheikh Hussein bridge or Arava Borders. For clients arriving from Israel via Allenby Bridge (also known as King Hussein Bridge), visa need to be pre-organised (and prepaid) prior to arrival.
RamadanDuring the Holy Month of Ramadan Muslims fast, abstaining from eating, drinking & smoking during daylight hours (approx. 7am-6.30pm). As a sign of respect, tourists should also try to refrain from these activities in public during the fasting hours. After 30 days, or on sighting the full moon, Eid Al Fitr is celebrated & most public and private institutions close for at least three days. During this period hotels may not serve alcohol during daylight hours or at all. Entertainment such as belly dancing may also not be available over this period in particular on the Desert Safari.
