Great Ocean Road Trip
from $2867
Duration: 8 Days
This adventure swings you from the hipster hangouts of Melbourne along the incomparable Great Ocean Road. On the way to Adelaide we'll check out the 12 apostles, meet some local dogs with jobs, and marvel at the geological wonders of Mt Gambier. After checking out the sights and sounds of Adelaide, we'll hop on a ferry to Kangaroo Island, a living zoo of dolphins, echidnas, seals and 'roos, of course. Hiking, quad biking, kayaking and more are all up for grabs in this incredible paradise, before we chug you back to Adelaide where the trip comes to an end.
Day 1
Melbourne to Apollo Bay
Welcome to Melbourne, the eclectic, arty, and all-around awesome city, with incredible secrets hidden down every alleyway. Meeting and greeting at Southern Cross station today, we'll head to Torquay. This is truly the home of Aussie surf culture, and is where the brands Ripcurl and Quicksilver were born. Next - after a quick photo op at the stunning Bells Beach, we're headed onto Apollo Bay...
Day 2
Apollo Bay to Warrnambol
We'll enjoy a free morning in Apollo Bay today, admiring the natural beauty the rugged coastline, beaches and Otway Ranges towering in the distance. Later today we’ll admire the 12 Apostles from the shore or, if you want a view you'll never forget, opt for a scenic Helicopter Ride and fly over the Great Ocean Road. Some views you just can't put a price on. Welcome to the rugged beauty of the 12 Apostles. Ok, there may only be 7 of them but these limestone stacks still take the breath away. These towering stacks, formed by hundred of years of erosion, now soar 45 meters into the sky. We've got a treat upon arrival in Warrnambool: meeting the dogs of the Middle Island Penguin project. There was once a sharp decline of penguin colonies on middle island due to fox predation. Fortunately, two brave Maremma Guardian dogs, Eudy and Tula, spend five days a week on middle island, warding off foxes and saving the penguins. Then, it's time to check into our accom and look forward to tomorrow's adventures...
Day 3
Warrnambool to Naracoorte
Today we're headed for some more geological wonders. Cameras at the ready - we're crossing state lines into South Australia... Mt Gambier is packed with adventures and breathtaking formations. From lava caves to breathtaking lakes and limestone foundations, there really is nowhere like this on the planet. We'll visit the Umpherston Sinkhole and Blue Lake, marvelling at the labyrinthine rocks and strange, gushing waterfalls of rainwater. Eyes still wide, we'll stop in Naracoorte for the night.
Day 4
Naracoorte to Adelaide
We're headed to Adelaide today! Welcome to Adelaide, the sophisticated city blessed with gorgeous Victorian architecture, a buzzing cultural scene and soulful beach vibes. We'll meet some new members of our group before embarking on a walking tour of this tiny city.
Day 5
Adelaide
We've got another day in Adelaide. Lucky us! There are plenty of eateries, beaches, and historic buildings to explore, but our recommendations? Opt into our food tour to get well acquainted with Adelaide's epic food scene. Then head up to the roof of the Adelaide Oval to see the skyline from new heights - followed by a night in Adelaide’s stylish cocktail bars, of course.
Day 6
Adelaide to Kangaroo Island
This morning we're headed over to Cape Jervis to hop on a ferry to the iconic Kangaroo Island. Across the Backstair Passage we'll swing to Kangaroo Island, a pure wildlife paradise. From dolphins, to echidnas, seals to the titular 'roos, this place has a laid back pace, incredible food and even better wildlife. We're lucky enough to have 2 full days of adventure on the island ahead of us, where we'll get to visit Prospect Hill and Seal Bay, while making time to experience the island's tasty hotspot.
Day 7
Kangaroo Island
Wake up, you're in paradise! And we have plenty of adventures awaiting us on Kangaroo Island today. We'll visit the island's showstopper - Flinder's Chase. This National Park is home to the world-famous Remarkable Rocks and Admirals Arch. We'll wind along the walking trails, spotting wildlife and admiring the rugged coastal scenery. You'll be spoilt for choice if you're seeking a thrill this afternoon - you can opt to try Sandboarding, Tobogganing, or even a Buggy Tour.
Day 8
Kangaroo Island to Adelaide
We're hopping on a ferry back to Adelaide today, as our trip comes to an end (sobs). Our adventure is over, but swap deets and arrange your next adventure together. Maybe on another continent next time?
